Your First Trimester: A Practical Checklist

The tests, supplements and warning signs that matter most in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy.

The first twelve weeks set the tone for the rest of your pregnancy. Most complications that can be prevented are picked up in this window, which is why an early booking visit matters more than most people expect.

At your first visit we confirm dating with an ultrasound, check blood group and haemoglobin, screen for thyroid problems and diabetes, and review any medicines you already take. Folic acid should be started before conception where possible and continued through the first trimester.

Nausea, tiredness and mild cramping are normal. Bleeding, severe one-sided pain, high fever or persistent vomiting that stops you keeping fluids down are not — contact the clinic the same day if any of those appear.

Practical routine: eat small frequent meals, keep hydrated, walk daily unless advised otherwise, and avoid unprescribed medicines and herbal remedies. Bring every report to each visit so we can track the trend rather than a single number.
